After being closed for weeks, one of Chatham’s downtown art hubs will reopen to the public Aug. 19.
ARTspace, closed earlier this summer for improvements, and staved off outright closure for at least two years due to a decision from council.
According to a municipal press release, the reopening is the result of a collaborative effort involving several municipal teams working alongside the building’s landlord to prepare the space and welcome visitors back.
“ARTspace provides an important venue for Chatham-Kent’s arts community, offering opportunities for local and regional artists to showcase their work while connecting residents and visitors with arts and culture in the community,” municipal officials said in a media release.
Located at 165 1/2 on King St., the community access gallery has been the host venue for dozens of art exhibitions over the years and has showcased many local artists.
ARTspace typically operates 20 hours per week, opening from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. The municipality supplies a staff member to oversee it.
