Scootering under the influence

A Chatham man faces impaired driving charges after an incident involving a motorized scooter early Saturday morning.

Police say officers spotted someone on Jackson Drive in Chatham showing signs of impairment while operating the scooter about 1:40 a.m. Saturday.

The officers asked the man to stop, but he failed to comply, police say.

However, police were able to find the fellow, who was on foot at this point, in a nearby park.

A 25-year-old Chatham man is charged with impaired and failing to stop for police.

One charged after shoplifters hit three stores

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a second suspect wanted in connection with a recent shoplifting extravaganza in Chatham.

Police say between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on May 8, three retail outlets were hit.

A description was provided indicating that the suspects were using an “identifiable rental vehicle,” police say.

The vehicle was later spotted in Wallaceburg and stopped by police.

Officers were able to link the vehicle to the thefts at all three locations.

One Windsor man, 36, is charged with three counts of possession of stolen property.

A second suspect is still outstanding. Police are actively seeking to identify and locate this individual. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chatham-Kent Police Service at 519-352-1234. Additionally, an anonymous

tip can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Robbery suspect found

Chatham-Kent police say officers tracked down a man who failed to show up for a court appearance recently.

The man, police say, was charged last year for robbing a convenience store in Chatham.

On May 6, he failed to show in court.

Five days later, police arrested him.

A 33-year-old Chatham man still faces robbery charges.
