Chase leads to charges
A Chatham man faces multiple charges after someone tried to elude police Wednesday evening.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., an officer went to pull over a vehicle on St. Clair Street in Chatham. The automatic license plate reader flagged the vehicle as having plates that were registered to another vehicle, police say.
The driver of the silver Honda Civic, police say, declined to be pulled over and sped off.
The vehicle was seen driving dangerously, failing to stop at intersections
and red lights, and nearly colliding with other motorists, police say.
That all came to an abrupt end when the car crashed into a hydro pole, leaving the occupants to try to flee on foot.
Officers pursued, arresting the driver, and detaining the two others involved.
Police learned the driver only had a G1 licence, and the vehicle wasn’t insured.
A Chatham man, 21, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, failing to remain, using a plate not authorized for a vehicle, and driving without insurance.
Skipped court date
An alleged gas ’n’ dasher and court appearance skipper is back in police hands.
Well, he was until he was released with a future court date, that is.
Police say someone filled up at a Wheatley gas station back in mid-March and left without paying.
Officers investigated, watched the video surveillance footage and identified their suspect.
They arrested the man the next day.
A 48-year-old Romney Township man was charged with theft.
He was given an April 14 court date, for which, police say, he failed to show.
However, on Wednesday, Leamington OPP scooped him up and contacted CKPS.
His next court date is June 9.
