Woman beaten, man charged

A Chatham man faces intimate partner violence charges in relation to a disturbance Thursday afternoon in Chatham.

Police were called and officers found the victim outside with visible injuries, including swelling and bruising around her left eye. She reported being assaulted during a dispute with her partner.

Officers learned tensions had escalated between the couple during a verbal argument. The victim attempted to leave when she was forcibly prevented from leaving by her partner, leading to a physical altercation, police say.

A Chatham man, 37, is charged with assault and forcible confinement.

BB B&E on Park St.

Police say the man behind a Thursday evening break in on Park Street in Chatham didn’t get far.

Officers responded to a call of a break and enter about 8:20 p.m. Police say someone

unlawfully entered a shed and stole a tin of pellet gun BBs. When confronted by the property owner, the suspect fled, inadvertently dropping the stolen items.

Police located the suspect a short distance from the scene and arrested him. During the arrest, officers discovered break-in tools, specifically a pair of bolt cutters, in his possession.

A Chatham-Kent man, 42, is charged with breaking and entering, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, and failure to comply with a probation order. The man is also subject to several outstanding warrants.

Garage door rammed, woman charged

A Ridgetown woman faces impaired driving and mischief charges after someone rammed a vehicle into another person’s garage door early this morning.

Police responded to the call about 3:45 a.m. The caller reported that his partner had rammed her vehicle into his garage door and was pursuing him inside.

When officers arrived, they found the man and woman in the garage. Police say the woman showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol, with an empty container of alcohol found in her vehicle.

A 32-year-old Ridgetown woman is charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and mischief.
