A Saturday night one-person speed trap near Wheatley has led to charges against a Dover teen…even though he was never actually pulled over.

Chatham-Kent police say about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, the officer had a dark-coloured sedan blast past them while “traveling at an excessively high rate of speed.”

The officer pursued in an effort to pull over the vehicle, but police say the driver didn’t slow. As a result, the officer terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety.

However, police say their CCTV system played a crucial role in identifying the vehicle involved in this incident.

As a result, the driver was identified, police say.

A Dover man, 17, is charged with failing to stop when requested by a police officer, stunt driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The car is at an impound lot for the next two weeks.
