It began with a crash and ended with three people under arrest.
Chatham-Kent police say that early Sunday morning, shortly after 6 a.m., they were called to the Intersection of Charing Cross Road and Middle Line where a truck had hit a light pole.
However, an alert resident reported to police that people were seen removing property from the truck and then getting into a black minivan that then drove off.
Police say the resident followed the minivan and stayed in contact with police, providing detailed information.
Officers arrived at the crash scene, found the driver, who appeared to be drunk, and arrested him for impaired.
A Chatham man, 35, is charged with impaired driving.
About 30 minutes after the report of the crash, police pulled over the black minivan at the intersection of Eighth Line and Dillon Road.
Officers believed the woman driving was impaired.
As they gained more information, they realized the passenger was the subject of a Canadian Immigration Warrant.
And then they discovered a loaded Glock with the serial number filed off. Police say it was placed within easy reach of the passenger and driver.
As a result, both face firearms offences.
A Wallaceburg woman, 34, and a Harwich Township man, 38, are charged with possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, tampering with the serial number of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, being the occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, and possession of a concealed firearm.
The woman also faces impaired driving charges.
