A Wallaceburg man has to answer to a slew of charges after someone took a victim’s car keys, smashed up his car and ultimately got arrested by the OPP.
It began shortly after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at a gas bar in Dresden. Chatham-Kent police say a man walked into the store and threatened the victim, a 29-year-old Dresden man.
The suspect demanded the keys to the victim’s vehicle, stole it and fled, police say.
Officers were provided with a description, and the identity of the suspect was quickly confirmed through video surveillance.
A short time after, the OPP reported that the stolen vehicle had been involved in a single-vehicle crash north of Glencoe and was abandoned at the scene.
As OPP officers investigated, they located the suspect in Petrolia and provided him with a free set of steel bracelets and a trip to Chatham-Kent police headquarters.
The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.
A 42-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with robbery with violence, theft of a motor vehicle involving violence, and possession of stolen property.
