CK Public Health reports there have been three new recent exposures for measles in Chatham-Kent.

Two are reported from Tilbury and one from the Chatham emergency department of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

The CKHA exposure took place Friday night from 9:40 p.m. to 11:50 p.m. in the emergency department at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in Chatham.

Additional exposures are reported March 22 at the No Frills in Tilbury between 9:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and on the same day at the Circle K at 90 Queen St. in Tilbury between 9:30 a.m. and 11:40 a.m.

If you were present at any of these locations during the timeframes and are not up-to date with your vaccinations, please call CK Public Health at 519-352-7270 ext. 5902.

If you are experiencing symptoms of measles and need to visit a health-care provider, emergency department or walk-in clinic, call first and tell them you have had an exposure and measles symptoms.

Symptoms can include a fever, runny nose, cough, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes.

A red rash appears on the face three to seven days after the start of the above symptoms. The rash may start from the face and progress down the body.

It is important to note that the majority of individuals are vaccinated against measles, providing them with protection against the disease. As such, the risk of contracting measles remains small to the broader community. However, as a precautionary measure, CK Public Health urges all individuals to ensure they are up-to-date on their vaccinations.
