Unbearable

A Tilbury man faces charges after Chatham-Kent police say someone used bear spray on another man Friday afternoon in that community.

Two men encountered one another on the sidewalk on Young Street – after having a disagreement earlier in the day – and the arguing resumed.

As tensions escalated, police say one man pulled out the can of bear spray and sprayed it into the face of the other man from close range.

The spray blew back into the first man’s eyes and he dropped to the ground, police say, while the victim ran into his home.

Chatham-Kent EMS cleared both men at the scene.

However, one of them, a 54-year-old man, now faces assault with a weapon and administering a noxious substance.

Tased and confused

A violent outburst against a Chatham-Kent police officer led to a local man getting tased on Sunday afternoon.

It began with a call from a Wallaceburg business shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Someone stole from the store.

Police say they attended and located the suspect riding a bicycle on McNaughton Avenue.

When officers went to arrest him, police say he resisted, and one officer had to resort to using a taser to subdue him.

A 30-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with theft, possession of stolen goods, and assaulting a peace officer with intent to resist.

’Burg man facing impaired charges

A Friday evening drive for a Wallaceburg man ended with arrest.

According to Chatham-Kent police, they set up a RIDE check on Industrial Road in Thamesville Friday evening, and just before 8:30 p.m., they stopped someone they believe was impaired.

After failing an approved screening device test, police say the man was taken to police headquarters for further testing, where he registered a blood-alcohol level concentration of almost double the legal limit.

A 63-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
