$2M fire in Tilbury

Nearly five dozen firefighters combined forces to battle a fire in downtown Tilbury March 21. The blaze at 14 Queen St. N. was reported about 7 p.m., and firefighters from Chatham, Raleigh North, Merlin, Tilbury and Wheatley ultimately responded.

The building had businesses on the first floor and apartments above.

The building suffered an estimated $2 million in damages. Officials say it suffered extensive fire and water damage, as well as the collapse of the roof.

The displaced residents are in the care of Victim Services.

Fire officials report the cause is undetermined.
