Kat and Karissa Strain are stepping up to help women in the north who may not have access to period products.
After seeing information online, the Chatham twins decided to collect donations for Moon Time Connections, an Indigenous-led charity that gathers and distributes feminine hygiene products.
Products being collected include pads, tampons, period underwear, menstrual cups and discs, cloth pads, heating pads and water bottles.
In Chatham, local businesses accepting donations include RAD Studio & Cafe; Revolve Spin Co.; naturopathic doctor Erin TeWinkle; Fuel 4 You; Big Ricky’s little bake shoppe and A Wee Trim. Good Days Cafe in Ridgetown and Pure Dance Academy locations in Chatham, Wallaceburg, Lakeshore and Lasalle are also accepting donations.
The campaign runs until March 31 and several special events will be held to support Moon Time Connections. Price of admission is a period product donation.
The first is Hop on a Cycle to Support the Cycles of Northern Community women at Revolve Studio at noon March 22.
A coffee and networking opportunity while perusing crafts created by local women will be held at RAD Studio & Cafe March 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
A poetry and wine/sparking water open mic event will be held March 27 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will be hosted at the Studio Sisters, followed by an intro to boxing event at KAYO boxing club March 29 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
