Chatham was the last stop for a man wanted by Peel Regional Police for a possible abduction.
Chatham-Kent police received word about 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday of the possible abduction. It was also believed the suspect was in the north end of Chatham.
Officers located the suspect’s vehicle on St. Clair Street, and went to pull it over. However, police say the driver bolted and soared through red lights as they headed south.
But as the vehicle went through the intersection at Grand Avenue, it collided with another vehicle. The driver tried to keep going, turning west onto Grand, but the vehicle was undrivable.
Police say the driver fled on foot, but officers located him hiding on private property.
A 48-year-old Kitchener man is charged with flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop after an accident.
He also faces charges of assault and forcible confinement charges from Peel Region.
