With two master’s degrees—one in history and one in cross-media business administration—Barbara has spent over three decades writing and editing for magazines, publishing books, and sharing her mystical insights. Her global outlook, shaped by living in five different countries and moving house 44 times, reflects Bahá’u’lláhs quote, “The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.” Barbara embraced the Bahá Faith nearly 30 years ago and draws from her experiences in ancient Peruvian shamanism and meditation. She will explore humanity’s enduring connection with religion, tracing spiritual practices back 50,000 years, and examine how spiritual leaders like shamans, healers, and prophets have shaped moral and social codes throughout history. Her works include the YA novel Het mes op de waaghals, the mystical guide Seek the Unseekable, and contributions to B the One, the first mass-customized women’s magazine in the Netherlands. Kent Branch of The Ontario Genealogical Society & Kent Historical Society November Webinar. Join us in person or online at 7:00pm. Co-hosted with the Kent Historical Society
Location: McKinlay Reception Centre. Speaker: Kae Elgie. Topic: This Land: The Story of Two Hundred Acres in Kent County. Researcher, author and long time OGS member, Kae Elgie, will meet with us in-person discuss her experience and tips learned while researching the stories of all the people who lived on the same two hundred acres of land where she grew up. Kae learned how to identify and date the artefacts (“arrowheads”) that so many farmers have informally discovered on their land, how to use land records to piece together the stories of the many settler families who consecutively settled that land, how to discover the social and economic context and setting for these stories, and how to tie hundreds of “facts” into a very interesting story. This presentation will be co-hosted with the Kent Historical Society. It is free and open for anyone to attend at the McKinlay Funeral Home’s Reception Centre at 463 St. Clair St., Chatham. Please park in the Hakim Optical parking lot (not the funeral home). To attend online register at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87883343837 or visit https://kent.ogs.on.ca/
