Chatham-Kent police participated in Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving weekend, and it certainly had an impact on their ticket writing abilities.
The national campaign took place Oct. 11-14, and focused on reinforcing the need for safer driving on our roads.
Locally, police conducted two RIDE checks and doled out 137 tickets for a variety of offences, and charged two drivers with impaired.
“This special weekend is a police initiative designed to remind people that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways,” police officials said in a media release.
The Thanksgiving weekend is chosen as a lot of people are on the highways, and thus accidents are more frequent.
“Here in Chatham-Kent, we have witnessed deaths and serious injuries related to vehicle collisions. We’ve lost moms, dads, sisters, brothers, loved ones, co-workers, and neighbours,” police said.
