A Chatham man will face charges in connection to a series of commercial break-ins on the weekend.

On Saturday, Chatham-Kent police responded to four break-and-enter calls at commercial properties on Indian Creed Road in Chatham. Someone had forcibly entered these locations, causing more than $10,000 in property damage while only managing to steal a small amount of cash.

In response, officers canvassed the area and reviewed CCTV and surveillance footage from businesses, which police say allowed them to identify the suspect.

The suspect had already been identified in a previous commercial break and enter reported on Sept. 30 on King Street West in Chatham. What’s more, police say the suspect was wanted on a warrant related to a July fraud investigation where a stolen wallet had been taken from a vehicle, and the stolen credit cards were subsequently used at several retail locations in Chatham.

Officers found and arrested a man on King Street.

A 55-year-old Chatham man is charged with six counts of possession of stolen property, five counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, four counts of fraud, three counts of break and enter while wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence, theft and mischief.
