Arson charge
A Chatham man faces arson charges after someone apparently tried to light a house on fire Monday morning.
Chatham-Kent police got the call about 11:30 a.m. to attend a residence on Taylor Avenue in Chatham.
Officers learned the occupants discovered the front of the residence on fire, and they spotted a guy with a fuel can watching only a few feet away, police say.
The man was known to the residents. He fled before police arrived.
However, an officer found him about an hour later, and made the arrest.
A 45-year-old Chatham man is charged with arson, endanger life; and arson, damage to property.
Fake name leads to charges
A Monday morning traffic stop in Wallaceburg wound up with a woman being handed over to Windsor police.
A Chatham-Kent police officer initiated the traffic stop on Wallace Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday. What the officer got, police say, was a fake name from the driver.
After confirming her identity, the officer discovered the woman was wanted on outstanding warrants held by Chatham-Kent police and Windsor police.
A 46-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and released to Windsor Police with a future court date. She is currently facing the following charges: theft, possession of stolen property and obstructing the police.
