After 33 years as a professional educator, Scott Johnson is retiring.
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board’s director of education announced he will step away from the job in March 2025.
Johnson began his career as an elementary teacher with the Halton District Catholic School Board in 1992. in 2005, he and his family relocated to Sarnia where he joined the SCCDSB.
He has served as an elementary and secondary teacher, student success teacher, behavioral resource teacher, elementary principal, secondary vice-principal and education superintendent. He took on the director’s role in 2021.
Provincially, Johnson has been a mentor, adjudicator and guest speaker for the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers’ Association, as well as serving on many local boards.
In a media release, the married father of three adult children expressed gratitude for the support he’s received over the years.
“I’m so grateful to have worked with dedicated Catholic educators and support staff who care so deeply for our students,” Johnson said. “I have witnessed love, compassion, professionalism, and inclusivity in every one of our schools.”
He also thanked board members for their unwavering commitment to Catholic education, knowing they will be guided by “wisdom and faith” as they choose a new director.
SCCDSB board chair John Van Heck thanked Johnson for his work, calling his leadership “a true blessing to our Catholic school community,” thanking him for the legacy he has left behind and wishing him well on the next chapter of his life.
