Women assaulted; men arrested

A Chatham man and an Alberta man face charges following two recent assaults here.

On Thursday afternoon, Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance on King Street West in Chatham.

Officers learned a man and a woman were arguing when the man assaulted the woman, police say. The woman sustained minor physical injury.

The man left prior to police arrival, but was located a short distance away.

A 25-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm.

On Thursday evening, police began an intimate partner violence investigation that took place four days earlier.

During the investigation, the officer learned about a physical altercation that occurred while the man and the woman were in a vehicle. After the incident, the man continued to harass the woman through phone calls and social media, and showing up at her home, despite being told that his contact was unwanted.

The man was contacted and advised of the investigation. He later attended police headquarters and turned himself in to the police.

A 24-year-old Airdrie, Alta. man is charged with two counts of assault and two counts of criminal harassment.

Mischievous behaviour

A Thursday morning squabble led to charges against a Walpole Island woman.

Police were called to Queen Street in Wallaceburg and discovered that a dispute between two women led to one woman damaging the other’s vehicle. Also, during a recent encounter, she also threatened to harm her, police say.

A 25-year-old Walpole Island woman was later located and arrested. She is charged with uttering threats and mischief.
