Taser used in arrest of knife-wielding man

A Ridgetown man faces charges after someone brandished a knife in Blenheim Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to Stanley Street for a weapons investigation. Officers were advised a man, brandishing a hunting knife, chased a woman inside a business. The man then entered a residence on Stanley Street without permission. The man threated the homeowner when asked to leave, police say.

Officers quickly arrived on scene and, with the assistance of a conducted energy weapon, the man was taken into custody without incident.

A 37-year-old Ridgetown is charged with break and enter, uttering threats and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Time behind bars

A Chatham man turned himself in to Chatham-Kent police Wednesday morning to answer for a bail violation.

Police say the man had been charged with several sexual offences in 2022 and had been released by the court with several conditions.

On Tuesday, police received a complaint he had violated the conditions, as he had communicated with the victim, according to police.

The conditions stated he had been prohibited from communicating with the victim in any way.

Police say the man encountered the victim and made a gesture.

A 48-year-old Chatham man is charged with failing to comply.

Caught on camera

A Wallaceburg man is facing charges following an early morning break-in on Mason Street in Wallaceburg.

About 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, police responded to a security alarm at a business. A man was observed via surveillance footage removing items from the business, police say

Officers arrived on  scene and after a systematic search located the man hiding inside the property.

A 24-year-old Wallaceburg man was transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He has been charged with break and enter and theft.
