Man hops into the river in attempt to evade police

He ran, he hid and he faces charges.

About 2:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, police saw a man run into the backyard of a residence on Margaret Avenue near Murray Street in Wallaceburg.

The man attempted to evade the officers by jumping in the river and trying to hide.

The man was located and arrested for trespassing at night. Further investigation revealed the man was bound by several probation orders and a release order with conditions, which included not to possess any identification not in his name and a weapon prohibition.

A search revealed two knives, a wallet that was not his, and several other items.

A 35-year-old Wallaceburg man faces the following charges: trespass at night, failing to comply with a release order and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
