S.S. # 13, known colloquially as the “Keith School,” is owned by farmer David Crombey.
His uncle and father Robert attended the school, which was moved to the present site from across the road.
Crombey said the school is deteriorating and will soon be coming down. S.S. stands for “school section” under the 1850 Common School Act for Upper Canada.
The area of a “school section” was from three to five miles square and was administered by a board of three elected trustees.
