Possession of a car stolen 7 years ago

Nearly seven years after a vehicle was reported stolen, police have made an arrest in connection with the case.

In fact, a man walked into Chatham-Kent police headquarters Monday morning and turned himself in.

It all began in September of 2017 when someone stole a vehicle in Lasalle.

Fast forward to June of last year. Chatham-Kent police began investigating an abandoned vehicle that had been stored in a garage on Coatsworth Avenue in Chatham.

The officers learned the vehicle was the one stolen in Lasalle six years earlier, and believed they had identified the person who parked it in the garage.

He could not be located last year, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

And then he turned himself in Monday. He is charged with possession of stolen property.

Man found sitting in stranger’s kitchen

After taking a walk out onto their front porch about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, a homeowner on Baldoon Road went back inside, only to discover a stranger sitting at their kitchen table

Police say the man left the home without incident.

Officers located the fellow a short distance away and he was arrested.

A 19-year-old Chatham man is charged with break-and-enter.

Impaired charge

One sure-fire way to get a police officer’s attention is to run a red light in front of them.

That’s what happened Monday evening at the intersection of Grand Avenue and St. Clair Street.

The officer pulled over the vehicle and soon believed the man driving to be under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 24-year of Chatham-Kent is charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. The man was also issued summons for offences under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
