Bad crash on Selton Line

Chatham-Kent police are still looking for more information in regard to a nasty crash on Selton Line Sunday about noon.

Police say the crash, involving a motorcycle and a vehicle, took place between Kenesserie Road and Victoria Road.

The motorcycle was traveling east on Selton Line when it crossed over into the westbound lane and collided with a vehicle traveling west, police say. The westbound vehicle went off the roadway and came to rest in a cornfield. The driver received non-life-threatening physical injury.

The 48-year-old Windsor man on the motorcycle was transported to a Windsor hospital with critical, but not non-life-threatening injuries.

Final assault suspect surrenders

Chatham-Kent police say Kodin Young turned himself in to police Sunday night.

Young was the last of three people wanted in connection with a night-time assault on King Street East in Chatham where one man sustained a serious puncture wound.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment and is currently recovering at home.

Young is charged with aggravated assault.

He was held pending a bail hearing.  

Assault with a vase

A Harwich man faces assault with a weapon charges after someone attacked a woman with a glass vase on the weekend.

Police say they were called Saturday afternoon to a disturbance on William Street South in Chatham.

Officers learned a verbal argument between a man and a woman escalated when the man struck the woman with a glass vase, police say. The woman was injured as a result of the assault.

On Sunday morning, a 32-year-old Harwich Township man walked into Chatham-Kent Police headquarters and turned himself in. He was held pending a bail hearing and charged with assault with a weapon.

B&E charges

Shortly before 4 a.m. Monday, police responded to a gas station on St. Clair Street in Chatham for a security alarm.

Through video surveillance, a man was observed breaking the glass to gain entry. Once inside, the man stole cigarettes.

Officers attended and located a man a short distance away. After a foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody.

A 24-year-old Raleigh Township man is charged with break-and-enter and wear a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence.

Car rolls, man charged

A London man faces impaired driving charges following a vehicle rollover Sunday late afternoon on Queen’s Line.

The mishap occurred at the Highway 401 access ramp, and left the vehicle on its side.

Upon arrival, officers believed the man was under the influence of alcohol.

A 43-year-old London man is charged with refusal/failure to provide a breath sample, and impaired driving. He was released with conditions a future court date.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

Early Monday morning, an officer observed a vehicle travelling westbound on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham at a high rate of speed.

The officer pulled the vehicle over on Woods Street and believed the man was under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and taken in for breath tests.

The officer also learned the man had been prohibited from driving for the same offence in late June.

A 38-year-old Chatham man was charged for impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.

Warrants

At about 7 p.m. Sunday, police responded to Richmond Street in Chatham for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located the woman and the man.

Through investigation, officers learned the woman was wanted on several CKPS warrants. The woman had also been released by the courts on in late November 2021 with conditions prohibiting her from communicating in person with the man or being within 25 metres of him.

A 60-year-old London woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was held pending a bail hearing. She is currently facing charges of assaulting a police officer, failing to attend court, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
