Assault arrest

At 8 a.m. Monday morning, police located a man on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

Officers confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to a June assault investigation on Margaret Avenue in Wallaceburg.

A 33-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Assault, theft and more

Chatham-Kent police say a man went where he was not supposed to be on June 28, and attacked two people there.

Police were called to a residence on Grand Avenue West in Chatham about 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, investigating officers learned that a male suspect had attended a woman’s residence contrary to his court ordered conditions. The man was instructed to leave by the homeowner, and in response assaulted the woman along with her friend who had attempted to intervene and help, police say.

Prior to police arrival, the man also caused damage to the residence before fleeing on foot with several items belonging to the homeowner, police say.

The man was ultimately located a short distance away by responding officers and arrested.

A 19-year-old Chatham man is charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order, assault causing bodily harm, two counts of assault, mischief, two counts of theft, and two counts of possession of stolen property.

Fence cut; items stolen

Police are looking for whomever cut the fence at the Waste Connections Canada compound on Sass Road in Chatham on June 28.

Sometime between 1:50 a.m. and 3:50 a.m., police say two suspects gained entry into the compound. Once inside, several items of value were taken by the suspects before they fled.

Approximately $400 in damage was sustained to the fence as a result of the forced entry, police say.

Alleged booze bandit nabbed

Police found their suspect Saturday morning.

They say officers found a man wanted in connection with back-to-back booze thefts from the LCBO on Wellington Street in Chatham.

In the first instance, on June 25, a man walked into the store about 10:30 a.m., grabbed a bottle off the shelf, put it in his backpack and then left the store without paying for the item.

The next afternoon, about 5:30 p.m., police say the same man returned to the store, took another bottle, hid it in his coat, and left without paying for it.

Store personnel handed over video surveillance of both thefts to police, who were able to identify the suspect.

And on Saturday, officers arrested the man on Lacroix Street near Grand Avenue.

He is charged with two counts of theft, two counts of possession of stolen property and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Missed court date

At about 2:30 p.m., police located a man on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officers confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court related to a September 2020 break-and-enter investigation on Westcourt Boulevard in Wallaceburg.

A 40-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing charges of break-and-enter, possession of stolen property, and three counts of failing to attend court.
