Intoxicated, angry, and arrested

A Wallaceburg man faces numerous charges after apparently tying one on, getting angry, lashing out and then trying to escape arrest.

Police responded to Margaret Avenue in Wallaceburg for a disturbance about 10 p.m. Tuesday evening. Information was received that a group of people were fighting.

Officers arrived on the scene and located a man, intoxicated and belligerent, police say. The man had visible physical injuries to his face. Police also located a woman with visible physical injuries to her body.

Through investigation, officers learned the man was consuming alcohol during the day and became increasingly combative with surrounding neighbours. At some point, the man assaulted the woman, police say.

As officers attempted to arrest the man, he resisted and tried to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man was transported to police headquarters and held until he was sober. He faces charges of assault, resist arrest and escape lawful custody.

Assault suspect surrenders

Just before 7 p.m., a man showed up at police headquarters and turned himself in to answer to charges.

Police say the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to a June 1 assault investigation in Chatham.

A 42-year-old Chatham man faces the following charges: assault with a weapon, unlawfully in a dwelling, uttering threats and three counts of assault.

Bail violation over weapons charges

At 6:40 p.m., a man attended Chatham-Kent police headquarters and turned himself in to the police.

The man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for bail violations.

A 22-year-old Chatham man faces the following charges: assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Way to keep a low profile

A Comber man faces stunt driving and mischief charges after getting pulled over Tuesday evening.

An officer on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, in a community zone, southbound on Queen Street in Tilbury.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Middle Line and arrested the driver for stunt driving.

Officers confirmed the man was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a September 2023 mischief investigation in Chatham.

A 20-year-old Comber man is charged with mischief and stunt driving. He received a 30-day license suspension, and his vehicle was towed and impounded for 14 days.

Skipped court dates

The missed-court-date carousel began early on Tuesday for local residents who apparently find it difficult to get to the courthouse at the appointed time. 

However, props to our first person, who turned himself into Chatham-Kent police shortly after 9 a.m.

Police say the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a 2023 break-and-enter and 2022 assault investigation, both in Chatham.

A 32-year-old Chatham man was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: uttering threats, assault with a weapon, unlawfully in a dwelling, failing to attend court.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., police responded to a business on St. Clair Street, near McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham, for a theft investigation.

Upon arrival, officers arrested a woman for shoplifting and confirmed she was also wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court in relation to another theft investigation.

A 42-year-old Chatham woman is charged with failing to attend court, two counts of theft and two counts of possession of stolen property.

About 90 minutes later, police located a woman on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg and confirmed she was wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court in relation to bail violations.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg woman is currently facing the following charges: failing to attend court, failing to comply with an undertaking, failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of possession of stolen property.

You can’t hide

A Chatham man faces charges after police found him while he was allegedly trying to hide from them in the wake of a disturbance call in Dresden Tuesday evening.

Police were called to Holden Street in Dresden and officers located a man attempting to hide from them.

They learned the man was bound by a probation order with conditions not to associate with the individual living at the address and had an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a December 2023 theft investigation.

A 26-year-old Chatham man is charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

Fraud and bail violations

At 10:50 a.m., police located a man on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg. Officers confirmed he was wanted on several warrants.

A 35-year-old Wallaceburg man faces the following charges: fraud, unauthorized use of a credit card, two counts of possession of stolen property and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
