Crash leads to impaired

A Chatham man faces impaired driving charges following a single-vehicle accident on Paxton Drive in Chatham Monday evening.

After hearing a vehicle struck a pole, police dispatched officers. They arrived on scene and believed the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for tests. Officers also confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a June 2023 assault investigation.

A 42-year-old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

Weapons offences

Sarnia police had a gift for their Chatham-Kent counterparts on Monday: a suspect wanted on several weapons charges.

At 10:21 p.m., Sarnia Police Service contacted the Chatham-Kent Police Service advising they had a man in custody wanted on a warrant held by CKPS.

The man was wanted for weapon offences related to a September 2023 investigation on Centre Sideroad in Chatham Township.

A 24-year-old Sarnia man is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief.

Bail violations

A disturbance call on Wellington Street in Chatham Monday night about 7 p.m. led to the arrest of a Chatham man.

Upon arrival, officers learned the man was on conditions not to associate with his ex-spouse who lived at the Wellington Street East residence.

A 41-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.

And early Tuesday morning, police were called to Talbot Street in Shrewsbury to deal with suspicious activity. Police had received a report that a woman was trying to get into a home.

Officers arrived on the scene and located the woman. Officers confirmed the woman was wanted on outstanding warrants for several investigations.

A 27-year-old Chatham Kent woman was arrested held pending a bail hearing. She is currently facing the following charges: mischief, failing to comply with an undertaking, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
