Crash leads to impaired charges

A Chatham man faces charges after someone clipped two other vehicles and failed to remain at the scene, police say.

The incident happened Thursday night about 11:45 p.m. on Park Avenue West in Chatham.

Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle, including the plate number, to police. The officer attended the address and located the driver parking the vehicle. The officer believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. He was transported to police headquarters for tests.

A 63-year-old Chatham man is charged with impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

Man leaves vehicle in gear, arrested for impaired

It was still daylight out when a Chatham man apparently slumped over his steering wheel and let the traffic lights cycle several times, resulting in witnesses calling police.

The call came in about 8:40 p.m. for the concern on King Street West at the intersection of Lacroix Street.

Police say not only was the man slumped over the wheel, but he got out of the running vehicle without putting it in park.

Officers attended the scene and believed the man driving to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and, after refusing to co-operate with a roadside test, he was transported to police headquarters, police say.

A 39-year-old Chatham man is charged with impaired driving and refusing to comply with a demand.

Woman surrenders to police to face charges

A Chatham woman turned herself into police Thursday early evening to answer to charges.

The woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to a May 12 assault investigation on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

A 46-year-old Chatham woman is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Skipped court date

He may not have shown up for his scheduled court date, but police say a Wallaceburg man popped into the police station in Wallaceburg Thursday afternoon to turn himself in.

The man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to probation violations.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man faces charges of failing to comply with a probation order, driving while suspended and using unauthorized plates.

Bail violations

At 9 p.m. Thursday, police began a bail violation investigation when learning a man on a curfew condition was seen outside his residence after his curfew.

Police attended the man’s home and confirmed he was out after his curfew.

On Friday morning at 1:30 a.m., officers located the 23-year-old Chatham man. He has been charged with failing to comply with a release order.

Also on Friday morning, just after midnight, police responded to Inshes Avenue in Chatham to investigation suspicious activity.

Upon arrival, officers located a man and confirmed he had been released by the court with a curfew condition.

A 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He has been charged with failing to comply with a release order.
