Preparation work for building demolition in Wheatley’s downtown core is expected to be completed this week, and the real work should start Monday.
That from municipal officials on what is transpiring along Erie Street North and Talbot Road East in Wheatley.
This week, the steel fencing along the east side of Erie Street and the north side of Talbot Road will be relocated onto the roadway in preparation for the demolition.
On-street parking and municipal sidewalks adjacent to the fencing will be closed during the demolition. However, road closures are not anticipated.
Demolition contractor Salandria Ltd. will be mobilizing equipment to the site on Monday. It is expected that internal work within the buildings will begin that day, and demolition of the buildings should follow within a week.
The downtown was ravaged by an explosion in August of 2021.
