Trio arrested following theft

Three men were at a local business on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Sunday, and left without paying for several items.

The store provided police with video of the men, and officers were able to track them down.

However, one of the men initially provided a false name and attempted to flee on foot, police say. After a short foot pursuit, the male was placed into custody.

Two men, aged 42 and 23, are charged with theft and possession of stolen goods.

A 26-year-old man is charged with theft and possession of stolen goods, resisting arrest and obstructing police.

He and the 23-year-old man were held in custody and later transferred to other police services on outstanding warrants.

The 23-year-old Chatham man was also wanted on an outstanding warrant by York Regional Police Service.

The 26-year-old Chatham man was wanted on an outstanding warrant by London Regional Police.

London gets another one

Police found a fellow around behind the retail hub on the north end of St. Clair Street Monday afternoon.

They confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant held by London Police Service, and arrested him.

A 44-year-old Chatham-Kent man was transported to police headquarters and turned over to London Police Service.

Asks cop for directions; charged with impaired

A mid-afternoon chat with a police officer ended with a Belle River man facing impaired charges.

Police say a man stopped an officer at the intersection of Wellington and Fifth streets in Chatham shortly after 2 p.m. Monday and asked for directions to Windsor.

Through conversation with the man, the officer believed the man was under the influence of alcohol and administered a roadside sobriety test. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for further tests.

A 59-year-old Belle River man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

Missed court date

A Monday theft investigation led to the arrest of a local woman.

At 11:38 p.m., police responded to Murray Street in Chatham for the call. Officers attended and located the woman.

A 49-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was held pending a bail hearing. She is currently facing the following charges: theft, possession of stolen property, failing to attend court, obstructing police, impaired driving, assault, driving while suspended and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
