Artist Lauren Graham’s work will be on display May 10 at the CO. in Chatham.
Graham, artist in residence at the CO., will show Esoteric Trap.
This immersive showcase is the culmination of Graham’s art she has created during her time at the CO.
“I’ve been creating my whole life, but it wasn’t until I graduated high school that I started creating with more intent. The mess that comes with smearing and whipping watered-down acrylics on a canvas allows me to connect with my emotions in a fluid way words do not,” she said in a media release. “To me, art is not just something pretty to look at, but an outlet to pour my truth into.”
Through a collection of pieces, Graham invites viewers to join her on a journey of self-discovery, celebrating the beauty in embracing one’s true self and existing in the present moment.
“It’s a playful jab at how we dramatize and overcomplicate universal emotions that are not all that serious in the grand scheme of things – all while validating these emotions, allowing us to move forward,” she said.
The Artist Residency at the CO. is a program developed for new to mid-career artists who have a lived experience with mental health. The artist is provided with a community-based art studio to create in, as well as a culminating solo exhibit.
The residency program began in 2020 and continues to support local artists today.
The show begins at 7 p.m. on May 10.
