Local man facing 20+ charges

It began with a Chatham-Kent police officer learning a vehicle’s plate wasn’t quite right, and ended with a man being arrested hiding behind a business.

On Saturday, an officer’s onboard licence plate reader chirped, alerting the officer to the fact a motor vehicle did not have an authorized plate.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was known to the officer.

As the cop tried to pull the driver over, police say the suspect fled. The officer did not pursue, as he had already identified the man.

Instead, other officers flooded the area where they thought the man would go. It is there that police found the man hiding behind a local business.

He was arrested without incident.

A 31-year-old Chatham man is charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and uttering threats to kill.

On top of that, police say the man was out on bail prior to the latest incident, and faces an additional 21 charges, including uttering threats to kill and to destroy property, assault with a weapon, theft and mischief.

To top it off, police say the man now faces more charges: two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, two counts of criminal harassment, two counts of mischief over $5,000, three counts of uttering threats, five counts of mischief under $5,000.

Man locks himself in vehicle

A Blenheim man faces charges after police found him locked inside his vehicle early Monday morning in Wallaceburg.

Police got the call about 2:20 a.m. to attend an address on Reaume Crescent in Wallaceburg for a disturbance.

Police arrived and found the man locked inside his vehicle. After some negotiation, the man unlocked and exited his vehicle.

A 24-year-old Blenheim man is charged with failing to comply with a release order.

Bail violations

Two people found in a vehicle together Sunday weren’t supposed to, well, be together.

That’s the word from police after an officer pulled a vehicle over on Longwoods Road Sunday afternoon.

The officer confirmed the man and woman in the vehicle were on conditions to not associate with one another.

On top of that, police say both were also wanted on warrants.

A 53-year-old Chatham Township man is charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is also charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

DNA warrant

Police arrested a local man on Sunday afternoon due to a DNA warrant and a bail violation investigation.

Officers made the arrest on Park Street in Chatham.

A 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
