A tip led Chatham-Kent police to recover a stolen vehicle and arrest a suspected thief Wednesday evening.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., police received information a stolen vehicle, reported to Lambton OPP, could be located on Lorne Avenue in Wallaceburg. Through investigation, officers located the vehicle and the driver.

Officers confirmed the woman was also wanted for an April 19 break-and-enter investigation on Warwick Drive in Wallaceburg and a DNA warrant.

A 26-year-old Walpole Island woman was arrested and held pending a bail hearing. She is charged with break and enter, failing to comply with a probation order, two counts of theft and two counts of possession of stolen property.

Two arrested for theft

A 911 hang-up call led to the arrest of two people Wednesday.

Police were notified of the hang up shortly after 6:30 a.m. and dispatched officers to investigate the Bloomfield Road address.

Upon arrival, the officers located a man and a woman. They confirmed the man and the woman were wanted in relation to a January 2024 theft investigation in Chatham. The man was also wanted for failing to attend court for other matters.

A 41-year-old Chatham woman was arrested a released with a future court date. She faces the following charges: theft and possession of stolen property.

A 41-year-old Leamington man was arrested and released with a future court date. He is currently facing the following charges: assault with a weapon, uttering threats, three counts of mischief, five counts of theft, and five counts of possession of stolen property.

Skipped court date

A local man walked into police headquarters Wednesday morning to answer to charges.

The man was wanted for failing to attend court in relation to a September 2023 theft investigation in Chatham.

A 44-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and released with a future court date. He is currently charged with theft, possession of stolen property and failing to comply with an appearance notice.
