A Chatham man returned to the country following a trip, only to be greeted by police and placed in handcuffs and is now facing 24 charges.

Chatham-Kent police began an investigation March 31 into a family violence complaint. Officers learned the violence had occurred over several years and affected several individuals.

They identified a suspect, but when the man could not be located, as he was out of the country, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Tuesday, the man was arrested at Pearson International Airport upon his return.

A 30-year-old Chatham man was transported to police headquarters where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, four counts of assault with a weapon, five counts of assault causing bodily harm, and 11 counts of assault.
