Assault suspect apprehended

A Chatham-Kent man faces assault charges in the wake of a March 31 complaint.

Police say the man and a woman were arguing while walking on King Street in Chatham. The argument escalated when the man assaulted the woman on two occasions, which was witnessed by bystanders, police say.

The man left the area prior to police arrival. When he was not located a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The next day, Monday, police found the man on Wellington Street in Chatham late morning.

A 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is charged with two counts of assault.

Suspect scooped up at traffic stop

A Monday evening traffic stop saw a Walpole Island man get arrested.

Chatham-Kent police pulled over a vehicle on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg just after 9 p.m.

Police realized they had a man wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to a February 2024 theft investigation.

A 45-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

Fraud arrest

Following up on a report of suspicious activity Monday evening in a parking lot on Richmond Street in Chatham, police arrested a man wanted in connection with a fraud investigation from last summer.

Officers drove into the parking lot and confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to an August 2023 fraud investigation where money was removed from a bank account using stolen cheques.

The man was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, uttering forged documents, identity fraud and fraud under $5,000.

Chatham-Kent police answered an early morning disturbance call in Wallaceburg, only to realize one of the people involved was wanted by Lambton OPP.

Police got the call shortly after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to attend an Oak Street residence.

Officers arrived, located the man, and confirmed he was wanted on the outstanding warrant.

A 28-year-old Ontario man was arrested and turned over the OPP.

Skipped court dates

The court-date carousel continued Monday in Chatham, as police arrested three people for missing their court dates.

In the first instance, around 10:15 a.m., police located a man on Erie Street North in Wheatley and confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to a September 2023 assault investigation.

A 51-year-old Wheatley man was arrested. He’s facing charges of assault and uttering threats.

About three hours later, police located a woman on Wellington Street in Chatham and confirmed she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to two theft investigations.

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent woman faces two counts of theft, and two counts of possession of stolen property charges.

In the third instance, a man walked into police headquarters to answer to missing his court date.

The man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court last September in relation to a 2019 intimate partner violence investigation.

A 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested and held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: two counts of uttering threats and two counts of failing to attend court.
