Arrests don’t get much easier than this, as a man walked into the courthouse Wednesday just before noon and officers recognized the man from previous encounters.

They confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to a December 2023 break and enter investigation.

A 41-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: mischief and break-and-enter.

Warrant arrest

At 6:45 p.m., police located a woman on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and arrested her. The woman was wanted on outstanding warrants related to a theft investigation and a surety sign off.

A 29-year-old Chatham woman was transported to police headquarters where she was held pending a bail hearing. She is currently facing the following charges: failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with an undertaking, driving while suspended, assault with a weapon, two counts of assault, six counts of possession of stolen property and seven counts of theft.

Bail violations

Despite orders to not even talk to one another, police say they spotted a man and a woman arguing on Prince Street in Chatham Wednesday over the lunch hour.

Through investigation, officers learned the woman was bound by a probation order prohibiting communication with the man. The man was aware of this condition and was participating in the contact, police say.

A 35-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

A 41-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a probation order – facilitate a breach.

They weren’t the only head-scratching decisions that resulted in charges in the past 24 hours.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday morning, police began a bail violation investigation in Raleigh Township.

Upon police arrival, the man answered the door. Officers confirmed he was bound by a release order and a probation order prohibiting him from contacting or associating with the resident of that address.

A 52-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with three counts of failing to comply with a probation order and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

More skipped court dates

It began at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, when a man walked into Chatham-Kent Police headquarters and turned himself in.

The man was wanted on two outstanding warrants for failing to attend court and bail violations.

The 37-year-old Chatham man currently faces the following charges: possession of stolen property, assault causing bodily harm, failing to attend court and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

An afternoon dispute on Jeffery Street saw a woman also get nailed for skipping court.

Upon arrival, officers located the woman and confirmed she was wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court.

A 39-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and released with a future court date. She is currently facing the following charges: theft and possession of stolen property.

Less than an hour later, officers spotted a man on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg and confirmed he was wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court.

A 25-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and released with a future court date.  He is currently facing the following charge: possession of stolen property.
