Woman found cooking in stranger’s home
A strange situation developed Tuesday morning in Chatham on Queen Street.
Chatham-Kent police say a homeowner heard their smoke alarm go off and went to investigate shortly before 9 a.m. They found a woman cooking in the kitchen.
Police say the unwanted “guest” had gathered personal property, including blankets and a cooler.
The homeowner called 911 and the woman fled the scene.
Officers quickly arrived and located the woman on Raleigh Street.
A 24-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was arrested and charged with break and enter and theft.
Brass knuckles earn a man charges
A Tuesday morning assault investigation led Chatham-Kent police to find a set of brass knuckles and resulted in charges against a West Lorne man.
Police got the call about 11:45 a.m., to an Emma Street location.
Officers arrived on the scene and located a man. The man was bound by conditions prohibiting him from possessing prohibited and/or restricted weapons for life.
Through a search incident to arrest, officers found the man in possession of brass knuckles, which are considered prohibited weapons as defined in the Criminal Code of Canada.
A 27-year-old West Lorne man is charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon and possession contrary to an order.
Warrant arrest
The Ontario Provincial Police contacted the Chatham-Kent Police Tuesday afternoon to advise, as a result of a traffic stop, they had arrested a man on warrants held by CKPS.
A 22-year-old Howard Township man was transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. The man is currently facing the following charges: public mischief, failing to comply with an undertaking, mischief, assault causing bodily harm, three counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, five counts of uttering threats.
As a result, the man was remanded into custody with a future court date of April 3.
Alleged porch pirate arrested
At 1:50 p.m., police responded to Park Avenue West in Chatham for a theft investigation.
A man was captured via surveillance video stealing a delivery from a residence. The video assisted in the identification of the person.
About an hour later, police found the fellow and made an arrest.
Police say the man was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for breaking a conditional sentence order.
A 37-year-old Chatham man is charged with theft.
