Assault suspects surrender to police

Two weekend assault investigations concluded with the suspects in each turning themselves into police.

On Saturday, officers responded to a disturbance on Gray Street in Chatham.

Through investigation the officers learned a man assaulted a woman, causing physical injury. The man left prior to police arrival.

On Sunday morning, a 37-year-old Chatham man showed up at Chatham-Kent police headquarters and turned himself in. He is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

On Sunday afternoon, police started another assault investigation in Chatham.

Officers learned the complainant and a woman engaged in a verbal argument, which escalated into a physical altercation. The woman struck the complainant, resulting in minor physical injuries, police say.

Shortly before 6 a.m. Monday, the female suspect turned herself in.

A 31-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault.

Criminal harassment

A Ridgetown woman has to answer to charges after someone took a hammer to a family’s front window recently.

Police got the call Sunday afternoon to go to a George Street home in Ridgetown for a mischief investigation.

Officers learned a woman broke the complainant’s front window with a hammer. Further investigation revealed the woman had a history of harassing the complainant and her family, police say.

A 40-year-old Ridgetown woman was arrested and charged with criminal harassment and mischief. She was transported to police headquarters where she was held pending a bail hearing.

Another assault

A Chatham man faces multiple charges in the wake of a disturbance call to police Sunday evening.

Officers were called to Patterson Avenue in Chatham shortly after 9:30 p.m.

They learned an argument escalated when a man assaulted the woman and threatened to cause her harm, police say. Further investigation revealed other physical altercations.

Officers located the man and arrested him.

A 28-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and two counts of assault.

Weekend B&Es

Police are looking for three men wanted in a weekend break in at the Mobile gas bar on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Police say someone broke in about 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The alarm sounded and officers were dispatched.

When police arrived, they saw the front window had been smashed.

Video surveillance shows three suspects fleeing the area.

Someone got into a garage on Raleigh Street overnight Saturday, stealing an estimated $750 in tools.

It wasn’t the only garage hit on Raleigh that night. Police were also called to another home where suspects broke into the garage and made off with about $750 in welding equipment.
