If you come across a manhole cover that has been all but covered by a topping of cold patch, such as this one shown here on Valley Road in Chatham, municipal officials say it’s a temporary stopgap.
The patching levels the manhole with the rest of the road until spring repair crews can come along and raise the manhole up to be flush with the road again.
