It’s nearly seed season at the Chatham-Kent Public Library.
Starting on March 19, the Spring Seed Library will begin to allow residents to “borrow” seeds from all branches.
CKPL Grows Seed Library will offer a variety of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds at each branch.
Last year, more than 6,300 seed packages were distributed across the municipality.
CKPL Grows Seed Library provides an opportunity for residents of Chatham-Kent to grow healthy gardens, have access to affordable food, and create beautiful spaces in their own backyards and local communities.
Members can borrow seeds for free, save the seeds they grow, and return some of those seeds back to the library at the end of the growing season.
Gardeners are also encouraged to “grow a row” for Salvation Army food banks using vegetable seeds from CKPL’s Spring Seed Library. Produce can be donated at Salvation Army food banks, located in Chatham (19 Raleigh St.), Blenheim (24 Talbot St.), Ridgetown (19 Main St.) and Wallaceburg (600 Lowe St.).
