Sheldon police incident leads to assault charges

Chatham-Kent police have more information for what transpire on Sheldon Avenue Wednesday morning.

Around 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Sheldon for a disturbance. Police were informed a distraught woman was calling for help from a second-floor window and there was a man inside the residence with a firearm. 

Upon arrival, officers were able to get the woman out of the home.

After negotiations, the man voluntarily exited the residence and was peacefully taken into custody, police say. A black replica handgun was located and seized. 

Further investigation revealed an argument had escalated into a physical assault on the woman, police say.

A 30-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault.
