Crash leads to charges

A local woman faces impaired driving charges, while a man is up on charges as well after police say he tried to help the woman escape from the back seat of a police cruiser Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 12:40 p.m., police responded to Keil Drive and McNaughton Avenue in Chatham for a motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, officers believed the woman driving was impaired by an intoxicating substance. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

As the woman was lodged in the backseat of a cruiser, the man attempted to assist the woman in escaping, police say. He was also arrested.

A 49-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is charged with obstructing a peace officer and impaired driving by drugs.

A 39-year-old Chatham man was charged with obstructing a peace officer.

Woman answers to assault charges

A local woman involved in a recent altercation on Longwoods Road stopped by Chatham-Kent police headquarters on Monday morning to turn herself in.

Police say the investigation began Feb. 28 and a warrant was issued for the woman’s arrest.

The 21-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, mischief, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order. She was held pending a bail hearing.

Threatening texts

A Chatham man has to answer to charges following what police say were threatening text messages recently.

Police began their investigation Monday morning in Tilbury.

Through investigation, officers learned the man had sent text messages and Facebook messages to the victim, threatening to harm them.

The man was located on Fort Street and arrested.

A 46-year-old Chatham man was charged with uttering threats. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Anger leads to mischief charges

A Chatham woman faces charges following an outburst late Monday night.

Police got the call shortly before 11 p.m. to attend a Vanier Drive address in Tilbury for a disturbance.

Through investigation, officers learned the man and woman argued and the woman left the residence.

The woman later got into the home via a second-floor window, police say.

After being removed from the home, the woman damaged the exterior of the home and items on the front porch, police say.

Officers located the woman on the back porch and arrested her.

A 45-year-old Chatham woman was charged with unlawfully in a dwelling, and mischief.

Warrant arrest

A Walpole Island man faces additional charges after police spotted him in Wallaceburg Monday morning.

Officers were investigating “suspicious activity” on Wallace Street about 10:45 a.m. when they located the man and confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

A 32-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested. He is currently facing the following charges: unlawfully in a dwelling and eight counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Skipped court date

Shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, police responded to Selkirk Street in Chatham to check on the well-being of the man who appeared to be struggling.

Officers located the man and learned he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.

A 43-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was held pending a bail hearing. He currently faces the following charges: assault with a weapon and failing to attend court.
