Man arrested for messing with traffic light

A local man turned himself into Chatham-Kent police on Thursday to answer to charges after someone manipulated a traffic light in Wallaceburg in January.

On the morning of Jan. 12, police responded to a mischief on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation officers learned an individual had gained access to the traffic lights and was manipulating the flow of traffic. Officers identified the man, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Thursday, the man walked into police headquarters to turn himself in.

A 32-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and charged with mischief endangering life. 

B&E arrest

A Chatham woman faces charges following a break-in investigation.

Back in December, a Conditional Sentence Order warrant was issued for the woman’s arrest.

In early January, police responded to a break and enter at a business on Talbot Trail in Harwich Township, where a pick-up truck had been stolen. Later that day, the pick-up truck was recovered on King Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, officers identified the woman involved and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On Thursday, officers located the woman on Pearl Crescent in Chatham and arrested her.

A 40-year-old Chatham woman was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. She is charged with possession of stolen property and break and enter.

Crash leads to impaired charge

Friday morning began with a bang and then handcuffs for a Chatham man.

Police say about 2 a.m., the vehicle the man was driving rolled and was found upside down in a ditch at the intersection of Baldoon Road and Pioneer Line in Dover Township.

The driver and passenger were extracted and transported to the hospital for minor physical injuries.

Through investigation, officers believed the man driving was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested.

A 53-year-old Chatham man is charged with impaired driving and failure or refusal to comply with a demand. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Skipped court dates

A well-being check in Wallaceburg on Thursday afternoon led to the arrest of a Walpole Island man.

Police did the check on James Street in Wallaceburg. Upon arrival, officers located the man and confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant for failing to attend court.

A 36-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and released with a future court date.

Later that afternoon, police were investigating on Berry Street in Chatham when they came across someone who they confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

A 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: failing to attend court, two counts of assault and five counts of driving while under suspension.

Probation violation

A Chatham-Kent man got scooped up by police Thursday evening for violating conditions of his parole.

Police say officers responded to suspicious activity on Grand Avenue West in Chatham about 8 p.m. They located a man and learned he was wanted on outstanding warrants.

A 29-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested. He currently faces the following charges: failing to comply with a probation order, and two counts of failing to comply with the Sex Offender Registry Act.
