Employment fraud

After more than four years of initiating an employment fraud investigation, police have made an arrest.

In October 2019, police began the investigation after receiving information the man was falsifying employment records.

The investigating officer formed grounds to arrest and charge the man. After several unsuccessful attempts to locate him, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Wednesday, Leamington OPP arrested the man.

A 27-year-old Pain Court man is charged with fraud under $5,000, and five counts of falsifying employee records.

B&E arrest

In early January, police responded to a break and enter at a business on Talbot Trail in Harwich Township, where a pick-up truck had been stolen.

Later that day, the pick-up truck was recovered on King Street in Chatham. Through investigation, officers identified the man involved and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Feb. 9, a probation warrant was also issued for his arrest.

On Wednesday afternoon, police located the man on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and arrested him.

A 42-year-old Chatham man is charged with break and enter, possession of a stolen property and failing to comply with a probation order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Impaired charge

Parking in the middle of the road will draw the police’s attention, and it led to a local man being charged with impaired driving Wednesday evening.

Police received information shortly before 6 p.m. that a pick-up truck, travelling eastbound on Bluewater Line near Wallaceburg, was driving erratically. It was reported the vehicle was driving in the middle of the roadway and drastically changing speed.

The vehicle was last reported parked in the middle of the road.

Officers quickly responded to the area and located the vehicle. Officers believed the man driving was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. The man was transported to police headquarters for tests.

A 55-year-old Chatham Township man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. He was released with conditions and a future court date of March 18, 2024.

Breach assistance

An assault investigation this week has led to the arrest of local man.

Police investigated on Tuesday on Longwoods Road.

Through investigation, officers learned an argument between the man and the woman escalated to a physical altercation. The woman left the address prior to police arrival.

Further investigation revealed that in late November, the court released the woman with conditions prohibiting her from associating with the man. Officers learned the man was allowing the woman to continue living with him.

As a result, a 27-year-old man was arrested and charged with facilitating a breach of a release order.
