Accessibility improvements may be on the way for the Wheatley Arena.

According to a report to council from Chatham-Kent’s engineering department, the improvements will be considered in 2025 municipal budget.

The revamp would include the construction of a lift/elevator, the renovation of a second-floor washroom to make it barrier free, as well as creating a universal washroom on the building’s first floor.

The report stated the revamp is intended to attract more community groups to the meeting space located in the 220-capacity Wheatley Arena Auditorium by making it accessible. The project would also benefit citizens by making the top deck of the arena stands barrier free for viewing.

The estimated cost of the project is $850,000, which if approved, would come out of the municipality’s capital cost budget.
