A local woman has to answer to charges after someone was spotted in the middle of Queen Street in Chatham swinging a machete around and cursing.
This took place Thursday morning about 4:20 a.m., according to Chatham-Kent police.
Officers arrived in the area following a complaint of a suspicious person, and located a woman walking in the middle of Queen Street, swinging a machete, and yelling obscenities, police say. The woman complied with the officer’s demands to drop the machete and was safely taken into custody.
Through investigation, officers learned the woman had attended a man’s home on Richmond Street with the machete, police say. She raised the machete towards the man during a verbal argument. Officers also learned the woman was bound by a probation order prohibiting her from possessing any weapons.Â
A 34-year-old Chatham-Kent woman was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order. She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.Â
