Threats uttered over bank card

A local man has to answer to charges after someone spouted off on a Bank of Montreal employee yesterday.

The incident took place shortly before 3 p.m. Police responded to the BMO on St. Clair Street.

Officers arrived and learned the man approached a customer service Representative requesting a new bank card. When asked for identification, the man became upset and commented on harming the representative and damaging the bank, police say. The man was still on the scene and was arrested.

A 31-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with uttering threats. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

40 winks leads to arrest

Sleeping in someone else’s bed landed a Chatham-Kent man on the wrong side of the law Monday.

Police got the call shortly before 4 p.m. to a home on King Street East.

The victim returned home to find a man, a relative, asleep in her bed and the home in disarray. The victim told the man to leave. He eventually left the home and police were notified.

Officers located and arrested the man walking on King Street East.

A 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with being unlawful in a dwelling.

Truck crashes on Hwy. 401

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for a time early this morning after the OPP say a semi crashed and blocked both lanes.

The mishap occurred about 2:45 a.m. near Duart Road.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the transport truck was not hurt.

A section of the westbound Highway 401 was closed temporarily to allow for investigation and safe removal of the vehicle. The roadway is now reopened.

Man arrested at courthouse…for skipping court

A Chatham man faces additional charges for missing a court date. Yet Chatham-Kent police say they made the arrest at the Chatham Courthouse.

Police say the man went to the courthouse on Grand Avenue just after 3 p.m. on Monday. Officers arrested the man on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court back in late September.

An 18-year-old Chatham man currently faces the following charges: luring a person under 18 years of age, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, assault causing bodily harm and failing to attend court.

The man was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

More skipped court dates 

Chatham-Kent police scooped up a man Monday morning they say is wanted for not attending court.

At 7:22 a.m., police responded to Colborne Street in Chatham and located the man.

Officers confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court. The man was required to attend court because of a Sept. 2 investigation where he was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a controlled substance.

A 44-year-old Chatham man was released with a new court date.

Shortly before noon, police went to the Sarnia Jail to escort a man back to Chatham-Kent police headquarters.

The man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court after being charged in a June 25, 2021, assault investigation.

A 38-year-old Walpole Island man currently faces the following charges: mischief, assault with a weapon, robbery, failing to attend court and two counts of failing to comply with an appearance notice.

He was held pending a bail hearing.
