East Kent Coun. Steve Pinsonnault won’t be acclaimed as the provincial Conservative candidate for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, as the head of the Middlesex London paramedic service threw his hat into the ring.

Neal Roberts announced recently that he too will seek the Conservative nomination to replace Monte McNaughton. McNaughton, a longtime MPP and cabinet minister in the Ford government, left public office several months ago to accept a job in the private sector.

No date has yet been set for the by-election to fill the empty seat.

Roberts, a resident of Middlesex County, is the past president of the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs, said he would bring more than 40 years of senior leadership experience in the private, municipal, and provincial sectors to the job, if elected.

His platform includes expanding high-speed broadband internet, improving quality and timely access to health care, and increasing natural gas availability.

“We are at a pivotal moment where decisive action is needed. My campaign is about bringing  practical solutions to the pressing challenges we face in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex,” he said in a media release.

The nomination meeting to select a Conservative candidate is to take place Jan, 27.
