Fraud charge over rent
Ten months after it happened, Chatham-Kent police tracked down a suspect wanted in a fraud investigation.
And it was by pure chance.
Back in early February, police began a fraud investigation in Wallaceburg regarding a rental opportunity in Sarnia. The officer learned a man accepted money to rent the Sarnia property, but then failed to follow through with the agreement or return the money. When the man could not be located, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Sunday evening, shortly after 9 p.m., police responded to Dover Centre Line in Dover Township for an unrelated matter. The attending officer located the man, and he was arrested.
A 32-year-old Dover Township man is charged with fraud.
Missed court dates
One man fessed up, while police tracked down another in two cases of skipped court dates.
In the first instance, a June 2 arrest for impaired driving saw a man given a June 10 court date.
That date arrived, but the man never showed, police say, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Monday morning, shortly after 10 a.m., a 56-year-old St. Thomas man turned himself in to the police. He was charged with failing to attend court and held pending a bail hearing.

At the end of August, police say a man was arrested in an assault investigation. He was released with conditions and a court date at the end of September.
When he failed to make his court appearance, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Monday morning, shortly before 9 a.m., a 22-year-old Howard Township man was arrested on Gosnell Line in Howard Township and released with a future court date.
