Domestic assault
It began on Friday and ended with a man in handcuffs on Sunday.
On Dec. 1, Chatham-Kent police began an intimate partner violence investigation in Chatham.
The officer learned a man was at the victim’s home when they began to argue. The argument escalated when the man assaulted the woman, police say. A warrant was issued for his arrest when he could not be located.
On Sunday, about 4 p.m., officers located the man on Grand Avenue East in Chatham, and he was arrested.
A 37-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault causing bodily harm.
Assault in hospital parking lot
In another instance of domestic violence, police say a woman was assaulted in her car in the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance parking lot on Grand Avenue in Chatham Sunday late afternoon.
Police got the call just after 5:30 p.m. Officers arrived on scene and learned a man had assaulted a woman in her vehicle. The man left the area but was located a short distance away.
A 38-year-old Tilbury East Township man is charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
No licence? Big problem
A man from the former Raleigh Township faces charges after police allege he was driving without a valid licence on the weekend.
At 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle on Duke Street in Wallaceburg being driven by a man he knew did not have a valid driver’s license.
The officer pulled over the vehicle and confirmed the man was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code of Canada.
The man was arrested, and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
A 53-year-old Raleigh Township man was charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.
Theft charges
Acting on a tip, police tracked down a man wanted for skipping court back in the summer. What they also found while making the arrest was a bunch of stolen property.
Back in July, someone shoplifted items from the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham, and left before police got to the store. But he was captured on video surveillance, police say.
He was identified and arrested, then released with conditions and an August court date.
Well, that date arrived, but the suspect did not show, police say, and another warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Sunday, police got the tip on the man’s location and they went there, found their guy, and also discovered suspected stolen property.
The investigation is ongoing.
A 47-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, failing to comply with a release order and failing to attend court. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
Bail violation
Police responded to a disturbance call in the middle of Sunday afternoon in downtown Chatham.
Officers went to a residential building on Fifth Street, and located a man who they confirmed had been released from court on conditions to not be at that particular building.
The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters.
A 27-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with failing to comply with a release order. He was held pending a bail hearing.
