The Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise planted and dedicated a Peace Pole recently at the Corner of Grand Avenue East and Victoria Avenue.
The Peace Pole message: “May Peace Prevail on Earth” is on all four sides in four different languages: English, French, Ukrainian and Lunaapeew.
“Our Peace Pole will symbolize our Rotary Mission and simultaneously link our work with people of all faiths and nationalities worldwide who are striving for a better world,” club past president Ken Bechard said in a media release.
The Peace Pole Project is a mission of the World Peace Prayer Society. The Society was founded by Japanese teacher, poet and philosopher Masahisa Goi (1916- 1980). Following the devastation of the Second World War, Goi cried out for a way to bring peace to all people.
There are more than 250,000 Peace Poles in nearly every country of the world dedicated as monuments to Peace.
